What is the Passion Tree ministry?

Passion Tree is a ministry founded by Dr. Robert Mullins that provides retreats and fellowship opportunities focused on spiritual renewal, rest, and encouragement for ministry leaders.

How can Associations better support their pastors?

Associations can support pastors by being consistently present, organizing regular, non-programmatic gatherings, and actively providing opportunities for rest and mental health support.

Why is relational discipleship better than programmatic church models?

Relational discipleship focuses on the long-term spiritual health and growth of individuals, whereas programmatic models often focus on attendance metrics that may not reflect true spiritual vitality.

Summary

In this episode of The Association Pulse Podcast, host Jeremy G. Woods sits down with Dr. Robert Mullins, Executive Director of the Madison Baptist Association, to discuss the critical need for pastoral care beyond traditional conferences. They explore why ministry leaders often face burnout and why sustainable ministry requires intentional, relational support systems rather than just program-driven events. Drawing from over 33 years of experience, Mullins shares the heart behind his ministry, Passion Tree, which focuses on providing necessary rest, renewal, and fellowship for those serving in the trenches of church ministry. The conversation highlights the shift from programmatic church models to a focus on authentic, relational discipleship. Mullins provides practical insights for Associational leaders on how to build trust, support bivocational pastors, and effectively care for the shepherds who lead local congregations. By emphasizing a "presence-based" leadership style, the episode offers a roadmap for leaders looking to foster healthier, mission-focused churches.
