E-learning has become a common method for schools, but also organizations are getting into it as well. Usually, it’s a method to make income, but there are many non-income-generating reasons to use it as well. First, we’ll look at this in an organizational standpoint, and then we’ll dive deeper into the application of this to a Church.

E-learning is great for job training.
For Churches, this can be applied to training (or continuing education) for certain roles. If you have certain positions in your Church where you need the person filling that role to know certain things, it’s a great way to state (and even measure) what you need to for the role. For Churches, it can also be used to train your members for missions (beyond any in-person training you want to do). This way, you can focus on important things in-person while leaving the rest to be done on their own time. A similar application to this also is giving members, guests, and your community Bible-based courses online.
E-learning can be used to create certifications.
If you are looking to ordain a Pastor, for instance, or another scenario where you need to certify a candidate (perhaps even in a seminary-type scenario), you have the ability to do so while not taking up valuable in-person time and allowing the work to be done during the week.
E-learning can be used for qualifying someone.
Similar to certifications, you can also simply make sure that someone is qualified for a role through e-learning and tests related to that that they can do.

If you are hiring, you can use e-learning to deliver tests for seeing who’s the best candidate for the position.
E-learning can be used to onboard people.
I’ve saved the best use for Churches for last. Churches can use e-learning courses for New Member classes (or other similar uses). While in-person is important for this, e-learning courses in addition to in-person allows the in-person meetings to be more about getting to know each other.
So, even though e-learning is used to produce income, for Churches that’s not the best application of e-learning. However, Churches definitely have a way to implement e-learning into their Church. E-learning can be just text, bu it can also involve audio and/or video, or perhaps a combination of these, depending on the e-learning platform your Church uses.
